Roy Dean Gaither, Sr.

Roy Dean Gaither, Sr., 83, of Plant City, Florida, moved to his eternal home on April 10, 2021. He was born in Sikeston, Missouri on July 29, 1937, and moved to Florida in 1938. He earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, and worked 27 years at Peace River Center in Bartow where he retired as Executive Director in 1998. He enjoyed construction work, travel, and socializing with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gynelle; children, Roy D. Gaither Jr. (Gayle), Cheryl Carlisle, and Connie Lucas; brother, Wyndell Gaither; sister, Patsy Martin; grandsons, Matthew Carlisle, Brad Carlisle, A.J. Gaither, and David Gaither; 8 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy C. and Mary Gaither; siblings, Vivian, Ina Bremer, and twin Ray G. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 15 at 11:00 A.M. at Hopewell Funeral Home, 6005 S County Road 39, Plant City, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M. Graveside committal to follow at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens, Brandon. For those unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed at Facebook.com/HopewellFuneral.
