How to Preserve Family Papers and Photos

The Society's Vice President, Catherine Allison, passed this valuable information along to us.  Many of us have family papers and photographs that we want to preserve, but may not have the resources or the knowledge.

On March 14, the National Archives, in Washington, DC, held its Preservation Expo, explaining how to preserve a whole range of media that document family history as well as our national history.  It is too late to attend, but we have provided you with a link to a summary of the information provided at the Expo.

The National Archives article provides tips on how to:

  • Store and handle papers and photos
  • How to safely mount documents, memorabilia, and photos into albums or scrapbooks
  • Framing and displaying photographs and documents
